Desk fitness? It's a thing!
Be honest with yourself, how often have you said "I'll go to the gym after work" and then never gone? A lot? Well, you're not alone. Many of us make hopeful promises at the beginning of the day, motivating ourselves to swap the office get up for a pair of trainers, but the stresses and pressure of work make us stop.
Well, luckily for you a clever person decided that you don't need to go to the gym to get some fitness in - just do it at your desk! Desk fitness or deskercise is in fact a thing and we've got the low down on the best exercises that you can do at your desk!
1) Stairway to heaven
The most obvious way of keeping fit at work would be to say goodbye to the lift life and say hello to the fire escape! By climbing a flight of stairs you're engaging all the core muscles that would be asleep when you sit at your desk. If you know you're going to sit at a desk all day, it doesn't hurt to do a bit of walking in the morning. But taking the stairs doesn't have to just be limited to your office, why not take the stairs during your commute too?
2) Sit and Squeeze
Yup, keeping fit at your desk is as easy as it sounds. Whilst this exercise may not help you lose all the weight you put on at Christmas, it will help tone your glutes. While you're at your desk, all you have to do is squeeze the buttocks for about 5-10 seconds and then release. Who says getting that Kim Kardashian body was hard.
3) Taking a stand
So this next tip might not be exactly ground breaking, but then again these are exercises you can do at a desk. Another way to keep the body a little bit more active is to occasionally stand at your desk. Yep you heard us, just standing can help keep blood circulating and the body fit. So if your colleagues don't mind you standing up every now and again and staring off into the distance.
4) Printer Posture
Oh no! Your boss has asked you to print off a 300 page document, however will you cope? Not to worry, take this time to do your deskercise! Whilst you're standing there do some calf raises by just standing on your tippy toes for about 5 seconds and then back to your heels. It'll give you a chance to tone your legs and keep you occupied.
5) Seat raises
If you're worried about looking silly standing up and randomly wandering around the office, we've got another exercise that'll keep the blood flowing). While your sitting down raise both legs and hold in place for 5-10 seconds. Then lower the legs back down to the ground without touching the floor, do this 15 times. It may not burn off your Christmas dinner, but it'll keep you going.
