6 Ways to get rid of office blues

We've all heard of the January blues with its grey skies, empty pockets and too tight belts. Whilst the start to a new year can be refreshing and give hope and before you know it you've got the January blues. But it doesn't just stop there, sometimes the blues have its way of getting into the office too. Morale falls low and before you know it performance does too. Here are some great ways to beat the blues and get your office happy again!

1) Organise, organise, organise!

Stress and disorganisation can make a gloomy day gloomier, so equip your morning meetings with highlighters, post it notes, agendas and anything else that can get everyone on the same page. If you want to go that extra mile, choose brightly coloured pens and sticky notes to make things a little less grey.

2 Jazz up those meetings

Meetings can be repetitive, especially if you're doing the same thing day in and day out. Why not add a little fun to meetings by starting off the day with a fun puzzle or riddle to get everyone's brains working? You could offer a small treat to the winner and who doesn't love winning things? You could win a prize and kick their brains into gear. Hopefully they won't be too distracted and will get some work done!

3) Music makes you gain control

There are quite a few offices that don't appreciate listening to Ed Sheeran 50 times a day, but some do! Turning on the radio is a great way to brighten up the room and add a bit of life! There's nothing quite like some cheery foot tapping and humming to get everyone feeling a bit cheerful again. Take turns every day asking which colleague what radio station they prefer to mix things up a little.

4) Dress to impress

It goes without saying, when you look good you feel good. We're not saying you need to go out and buy the fanciest dress or suit around, just to wear something that brightens your day up a little. A little pop of colour, or that pair of novelty socks you got for Christmas are a great way to add a bit of cheer to an otherwise grey day.

5) Lunchtime fun time

January sees a spark in people trying to make healthier food decisions, which is great but that doesn't mean that it has to be boring. Make lunch healthy, wholesome and fun by packing (or buying) different things every day, sometimes the right lunch can really perk you up for the afternoon. If you're someone who favours solitude, why not have lunch with a colleague who's also on a health kick, it'll help keep you motivated!

6) Ain't no rest for the wicked

You know what unhappy people are? Tired. Binge watching seven episodes of 'Stranger Things' on a work night may sound like a fun idea, until you get into work in the morning and you're drooling into your morning cuppa. Don't cut back on sleep! You need to recharge and missing out on catching some z's isn't a smart thing to do. Grab a comfy pillow, slap on some lavender oil and get snoozing.
